Searching regions

Most searches allow you to select from among one or more "regions" or distinct sections of a work to search within. All those regions that are available for searching are described in the table below, ordered by collection name and by search type. Please note that, as you select more than one collection for searching, the list of available regions is adjusted to reflect the intersection of regions available for those collections.

For each term, you can specify a term-specific region to the right of the term text. For the whole search, you can specify a search-specific region (to avoid confusion between the two, the latter is called 'restrict to component part'). Both can be used together (with a few exceptions, described below).

English Prose Drama	anywhere	term-specific	The default: no specific restriction on this search term.
	author	term-specific	The author of the work. Note: though the author is part of the bibliographic details of a work, this will still work combined with a search-specific restriction that doesn't include these.
	title	term-specific	The main title of a work. Works similar to author.
	print source	term-specific	The bibliographic details of the original print source that the electronic version is based on. Works similar to author.
	speaker	term-specific	Speaker. This will only yield results if the speaker-region is part of the region chosen as search-specific region.
	Full text and bibliographic details	search-specific	All work content. This region is the cumulation of all other regions.
	Full text only	search-specific	All work content, except the bibliographic details.
	speeches	search-specific	All speech content.
	acts	search-specific	All act content, including stage directions and speech text.
	scenes	search-specific	All scene stage directions and speech text.
	poems	search-specific	All content within a single poem.
	stage directions	search-specific	All stage directions content.
	prologues	search-specific	All content within the prologue of a work.
	epigraphs	search-specific	All epigraph content.
	headings	search-specific	All titles and subtitles of a work. Note: this region is only available when searching across multiple collections.

Voltaire électronique	anywhere	term-specific	The default: no specific restriction on this search term. Note that the search-specific restriction still applies.
	author	term-specific	The author of the work. Note: since the author is always Voltaire, this field is only available when searching across multiple collections.
	title	term-specific	The main title of a work. Note: though the title is part of the bibliographic details of a work, and not of the main text, the search will still work with a search-specific restriction that doesn't include these.
	print source	term-specific	The bibliographic details of the original print source that the electronic version is based on. Works similar to title.
	speaker	term-specific	Speaker. This will only yield results if the speaker-region is part of the region chosen as search-specific region.
	full text and bibliographic details	search-specific	All content including Voltaire's texts and attached criticism, and bibliographi details. This region is the cumulation of all other regions.
	full text only (both by Voltaire and editorial apparatus)	search-specific	All content including Voltaire's texts and attached criticism, without bibliographi details.
	text by Voltaire	search-specific	All work within Voltaire's works (excludes bibliographic details and editorial apparatus).
	editorial apparatus	search-specific	All content in the editorial apparatus (excludes bibliographic details, and the text by Voltaire).
	acts	search-specific	All act content, including stage directions and speech text.
	scenes	search-specific	All scene stage directions and speech text.
	poems	search-specific	All content within a single poem.
	stage directions	search-specific	All stage directions content.
	headings	search-specific	All titles and subtitles of a work.

Patrologia Latina Database	anywhere	term-specific	The default: no specific restriction on this search term. Note that the search-specific restriction still applies. If used with the author and title regions, only the works written by the author with the specified title are searched.
	author	term-specific	The author of the work.
	title	term-specific	The title of the work.
	full text	search-specific	All content including supporting apparatus.
	apparatus only	search-specific	Restricts the results of your search to documents only.
	exclude apparatus	search-specific	Restricts the results of your search to the supporting apparatus only.
